SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 3

Commemorating the passing of Reverend Beatrice R. Burgess, humanitarian and distinguished West Virginia citizen.

Whereas, Reverend Beatrice R. Burgess, a resident of Gary, McDowell County, was a United Methodist minister and had pastored several churches in West Virginia, and was involved in several community services in Kanawha, Putnam, Monroe and Fayette counties; and
Whereas, Originally from Cradall, Indiana, Reverend Beatrice R. Burgess was a graduate of Western Kentucky Teachers College and received a master's degree from Scarritt College, Nashville, Tennessee; and
Whereas, Aside from her spiritual guidance as a minister and her genuine love for people, Reverend Beatrice R. Burgess was active in a myriad of community services. Her most compassionate contributions and tireless efforts were toward the care of the elderly citizens of West Virginia. She served as president of the Council of Senior West Virginians and the Coalition on Legislation for the Elderly and was a registered lobbyist for those organizations. She helped establish a health center and a transportation network to aid the elderly in Monroe County andworked to establish food pantries in Fayette County; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate recognizes the humanitarian efforts and compassion of Reverend Beatrice R. Burgess toward West Virginia's senior citizens and also recognizes the contributions she has made by being instrumental in the implementation of programs and projects vital to their well-being; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate expresses its sincere sympathy at the passing of Reverend Beatrice R. Burgess, a dedicated individual who gave much of herself for the betterment of others; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the family of the late Reverend Beatrice R. Burgess.
